CBD Facts Every Mother Should Know

Does CBD oil get you high?

CBD (Cannabidiol) is one of the most abundant cannabinoids found in cannabis and hemp plants. To answer the question many moms may ask, “Does CBD oil get you high?” Unlike its close relative THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD is completely non-psychoactive. This means that CBD will not get you high like THC oil can.  It does not change a person's state of mind when they use it.  This allows us to benefit from the many health properties of the cannabis plant without the negative, intoxicating side effects.

CBD works with your endocannabinoid system. This system helps us maintain homeostasis (balance) in our bodies by communicating with other biological systems and helping those in the body stay healthy.  CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system directly through the activation of outside receptions and interaction with enzymes. 

Does CBD show up on a drug test?

CBD should not show during drug testing unless it contains minimal amounts of THC. So in rare cases, CBD with trace amounts of THC can lead to a positive drug test. Our products are tested to validate 0.0% THC.

Why did you try CBD?

I’ve always explored products and solutions to help me manage anxiety and everyday stress.  A few years ago my anxiety felt like it was at an all-time high being a Mom of two and having a full-time intense job. I hated the fact that I didn’t feel comfortable going anywhere without having Xanax on me in case I had a panic attack and a bout of anxiety.  I hated my mind racing and not being able to sleep as well anymore.  I hated suffering from stress-induced migraines.  I hated the everyday anxious feeling. I hated feeling claustrophobic every time on an airplane or small space.

I did a lot of research and kept hearing stories of people seeing strong benefits from CBD usage.  I discussed it with my neurologist who has helped me discuss more natural alternatives to manage my well being over the years.  When I started taking CBD consistently, it truly transformed my health and well being. I have reduced my stress and anxiety significantly (amazing!) and I no longer take any prescription medications. I sleep better than I ever have (despite having a 1-month-old and two other kids!) and I truly feel more relaxed and happy every day.

Along with daily CBD, I also take the following supplements and practice regular exercise: 400mg Magnesium, Omega 3 Fish Oil, Methylated Folic Acid, and B Complex with Biotin. 

How do you use CBD?

There are many ways to take CBD (e.g. CBD drinks, CBD gum, CBD honey sticks, smoking CBD, CBD chocolate, CBD powder, CBD water, CBD Creams, CBD patches), and each method delivers CBD to your body in different ways.  This will impact what you want to use for, how you want to use it, and how much to take.  Every person is different so not a one size fits all and important to play around with dosage and frequency. 

For me personally, I use Sister Stone 1000mg CBD Oil daily. I drop it directly in my mouth under my tongue, but some people prefer to put in a drink.  I take on average 33mg (1ML = 1 dropper) every evening before bed.  During the day, I take on average 8mg (.25ML = ¼ dropper) for general daytime anxiety.  Consistency of use is important and I regularly play around with oil dosage. 

I also use Sister Stone 500mg Balm daily which is the best CBD cream for pain.  I apply it as a spot treatment to aches and pains during day and at night I rub on my neck and jaw before bed.  It has really helped with neck pain and jaw pain for TMJ (jaw pain), which reduces my headaches.  I also use CBD oil for back pain.

If you are new to CBD, it may take time to find the right dosage and consumption method as this is not a one size fits all.  Once you have this figured out though, you may discover the magic to what you have been missing for your well being. Additionally, CBD strains may vary based on the plant it is extracted from, so knowing the correct dosage and strengths can take some time testing it on your body.

How do you feel about using CBD as a Mom? 

CBD has helped me become a better Mom. I relate to putting on your oxygen mask first before helping others. When you are less anxious all the time and getting great sleep, you are able to feel and act your best. I believe I’m much more relaxed, patient, and present with my kids. We are all happier.
